On November 17, 2025, the Lorenza Longaretti Peripheral Care Unit (USP) was inaugurated in Tchébébé, Togo. This nonprofit faith-based health center, managed by the Marianist Sisters, was established to provide basic and quality healthcare to people of all ages and social backgrounds.
The local population has welcomed our mission with great trust. The center’s activities include:
- General Medicine: Between mid-November 2025 and January 2026, more than 900 patients were attended to.
- Maternity: A reference point for prenatal consultations (39 so far) and childbirth assistance.
- Mental Health and Laboratory Services: Clinical analyses in hematology, biochemistry, and parasitology to respond to the needs of the area.
- Social Assistance: Continuing the sisters’ historic commitment to the most vulnerable, as well as managing the local pharmacy.
The USP is staffed by a team of 12 professionals, 5 religious sisters and 7 laypeople, who work in a spirit of collaboration, integrating medical care with daily prayer for the sick.
Like any new project in rural contexts, it faces significant challenges. Despite the difficulties, we look to the future with gratitude. Our work is a song of thanksgiving, a true “Magnificat” lived together with the rural population of Togo.
